This is the section where you will find a list of characters in alphabetical order by surename.  Chronologically, they are based in relation to Harry's age or year at Hogwarts.  There are no very irrelevant characters, but all of the main ones.

 
 
Abott, Hannah – a Hufflepuff girl in Harry’s year at Hogwarts; a prefect

Archie – an old wizard at the Quidditch World Cup who tried to pass for a muggle wearing a nightgown

Avery – a Death Eater

Bagman, Ludovic – previous head in the department of Magical Games and Sports

Bagshot, Bathilda – an elderly woman who wrote A History of Magic and lives in Godric’s Hollow

Bell, Katie – a Gryffindor girl 1 year above Harry who played on the Gryffindor Quidditch team as a Chaser; Dumbledore’s Army member

Black, Andromeda – Sirius’s sister who married Ted Tonks; highly resembles Bellatrix Lestrange; mother of Nymphadora Tonks

Black, Regulus – Sirius’s brother; a reformed Death Eater who stole Salazar Slytherin’s locket from its hidig place in the cave; fate unknown

Black, Sirius – Harry Potter’s godfather; killed by his cousin Bellatrix Lestrange; 1 of the 4 creators of the Marauder’s Map; his animagus form is a black dog (otherwise known as padfoot); member of the Order of the Phoenix

Bones, Amelia – a worker at the Ministry of Magic who was killed; Susan’s aunt

Bones, Susan – a Hufflepuff girl in Harry’s year; Dumbledore’s Army member

Boot, Terry – a Ravenclaw boy in Harry’s year who is a member of Dumbledore’s Army

Boardman, Stubby – a person in a band who was thought to be Sirius Black by the Quibbler

Brown, Lavender – a Gryffindor girl in Harry’s year who went out with Ron for a while

Bulstrode, Millicent – a Slytherin girl in Harry’s year who Hermione attempted to turn into using polyjuice potion but instead turned into her cat

Chang, Cho – a Ravenclaw girl a year above Harry who is a member of Dumbledore’s Army; went out with Harry briefly in her 6th year

Carmichael, Eddie – a Ravenclaw boy 1 year above Harry

Clearwater, Penelope – Percy’s girlfriend with severe acne during his time at Hogwarts

Corner, Micheal –a Ravenclaw boy in Harry’s year who played on the Ravenclaw Quidditch team; went out with Ginny in her 4th year; member of Dumbledore’s Army

Crabbe, Vincet – a very dense Slytherin boy in Harry’s year who is a friend of Draco Malfoy’s; killed by feindfyre he set himself in the Room of Requirement in the Deathly Hallows

Creevy, Colin – a Gryffindor boy 1 year below Harry; Harry’s biggest fan ever; loves photography; muggle-born; petrified by a Basilisk in his 1st year; killed in the Battle of Hogwarts

Creevy, Denis – a Gryffindor boy 1 year below Harry; Colin’s brother

Crouch, Bartimeus – previous worker at the Ministry of Magic; killed by his son

Crouch, Barty Jr. – son of Barty Crouch; a Death Eater; thought to be Proffessor Moody in Harry’s 4th year because he drank polyjuice potion and Voldemort needed a spy at Hogwarts; switched places with his mother to get out of Azkaban; got his soul sucked by a dementor

Dawlish – an auror

Delacour, Fleur – a Triwizard champion from Beauxbatons Academy; wife of Bill Weasley and mother of Victorie, Dominique, and Louis; sister of Gabrielle

Diggle, Deadalus – an auror

Diggory, Amos – Cedric Diggory’s father who works at the ministry

Diggory, Cedric – a Triwizard Tournament champion at Hogwarts; a Hufflepuff boy 3 years above Harry who was Seeker on the Hufflepuff Quidditch team; killed by Peter Petigrew in near Tom Riddle Sr.'s grave in Little Hanging

Dippett, Professor Armondo – the Hogwarts headmaster during Tom Riddle’s time

Doge, Elphias – a good friend of Dumbledore’s who wrote an article on him after he died

Dolohov, Antonin – a Death Eater

Dumbledore, Aberforth – keeper of Hog’s Head; brother of Albus and Ariana; son of Kendra and Percival

Dumbledore, Albus Percival Wulfric Brian – Hogwarts headmaster for over 50 years; defeater of Gellert Grindlewald; discovered 12 uses of dragon blood; founder of Order of the Phoenix; Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot; destroyer of the horcrux Marvolo Gaunt’s Ring; killed by Severus Snape; brother of Aberforth and Ariana; son of Percival and Kendra

Dumbledore, Ariana – Albus’s and Aberforth’s sister who became afraid to use her magical powers after 3 muggle boys attacked her, and was killed by either Albus, Aberforth, or Grindlewald when she was 14 in a fight between the 3 of them

Dumbledore, Kendra – Albus, Aberforth, and Ariana’s mother and Percival’s wife who died when Ariana was 14

Dumbledore, Percival – Albus, Aberforth, and Ariana’s father and Kendra’s husband; died in Azkaban

Dursley, Dudly – Harry’s muggle cousin who was attacked by dementors in the summer before Harry's 5th year; attends Smeltings private school

Dursley, Petunia – Harry’s muggle aunt; sister of Lily Potter

Durlsey, Vernon – Harry’s muggle uncle; works at Grunnings

Edgecombe, Marietta – Cho Chang’s friend who turned the DA in; mom works at the Ministry of Magic

Fletcher, Mundungs – a short and shabby member of Order of the Phoenix; committs theft and sells the stolen items for his own benefit; resopnsible for the death of Alastor Moody because, out of fear he dissaperated out of the way

Finch-Fletchly, Justin – a Hufflepuff muggle born boy in Harry’s year who was petrified by a Basilisk in his 2nd year; Dumbledore’s Army member

Figg, Abreala – the squib neighbor of the Dursley’s

Filch, Argus – the squib caretaker of Hogwarts

Flitwick, Professor – the Charms professor of Hogwarts who is head of Ravenclaw house and is half- goblin

Fridwulfa – Hagrid’s Giantess mother

Fudge, Cornelius – former minister of magic who did not believe Harry and Dumbledore when they said Voldemort was back until he saw it for himself

Finnigan, Sheamus – a Gryffindor boy in Harry’s year who is Irish; Dumbledore’s Army member
 
Gaunt, Marvolo - one of the last remaining descendents of Salazar Slytherin, who previously owned Voldemorts horcrux "Marvolo Gaunt's ring", also known as the Deathly hallow "the Ressurection stone", father of Morfin and Merope Gaunt
 
Gaunt, Merope - refered to by her father as a "squib" and horribly abused, she is the mother of Tom Marvolo Riddle II (a.k.a. Voldemort), the wife of Tom Riddle, the daughter of Marvolo Gaunt and the sister of Morfin Gaunt
 
Gaunt, Morfin - the son of Marvolo Gaunt, a parslemouth 

Granger, Hermione – a Gryffindor girl in Harry’s year; a prefect; a member of Dumbledore’s Army; inventor of S.P.E.W.; one of harry's best friends in Hogwarts; destroyed the horcrux "Hufflepuff's cup"; smartest witch of her age; wife of Ron Weasley and mother of Rose and Hugo

Gryffindor, Godric – 1 of the 4 founders of Hogwarts

Goyle, Gregory – a rather dimwitted Slytherin boy in Harry’s year who is a friend of Draco’s and his father is a Death Eater

Greyback, Fennir – the most famous and ferocious Werewolf and one of Voldemort's Death Eaters

Goldskein, Anthony – a Ravenclaw boy who is a member of Dumbledore’s Army

Hagrid, Rubeus – a half-giant; keeper of grounds and keys at Hogwarts; Care of Magical Creatures professor; half brother of Grawp

Hooch, Madam – the flying professor for 1st years at Hogwarts; also the person in charge of Quidditch

Hufflepuff, Helga – 1 of the 4 founders of Hogwarts

Johnson, Angelina – a Gryffindor girl 2 years above Harry; palys on the Gryffindor Quidditch team as a chaser; Quidditch captain for 1 year in Harry’s 5th year; wife of George Weasley and mother of Fred II and Roxanne

Jordan, Lee – a Gryffindor boy 2 years above Harry who is a friend of Fred and George Weasley; commentated Quidditch matches through the time he left Hogwarts; a member of Dumbledore’s Army

Karrakoff, Igor – headmaster of Durmstrang; in Azkaban for a short period of time until he gave names of Death Eaters, the most significant of which being Barty Crouch Jr.; a reformed Death Eater

Kettleburn, Professor – previous Care of Magical Creatures professor at Hogwarts, who left "in order to spend more time with his remaining limbs"

Krum, Victor – the Triwizard champion from Durmstrang; went to the Yule Ball with Hermione; the Bulgarian Quidditch team’s seeker

Lestrange, Bellatrix - a Death Eater who was famous for frequent and intense use of the Crutiatus Curse; killed her cousin Sirius Black at the end of Harry's 5th year in the Department of Mysteries (Veil Room); tortured Frank and Alice Longbottom into insanity; broke out of Azkaban in harry's 5th year; blown up by Molly Weasley in the Battle of Hogwarts

Lestrange, Rudolphus – Bellatrix’s husband; a Death Eater

Lockhart, Gilderoy – a fraud who taught Defense Against the Dark Arts in Harry’s 2nd year; his obliviate spell backfired and hit him instead because he used Ron’s defective wand; he is now a permanent patient at St. Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries, and he still thinks he’s famous

Longbottom, Alice – Neville’s mom who was tortured into insanity by Bellatrix Lestrange along with her husband because they would not give them information; member of Order of the Phoenix; permanent patient at St. Mungo’s

Longbottom, Frank - Neville’s dad who was tortured into insanity by Bellatrix Lestrange along with his wife because they would not give them information; member of Order of the Phoenix; permanent patient at St. Mungo’s

Longbottom, Neville – a Gryffindor boy in Harry’s year who lived with his grandmother; killed Voldemorts snake Nagini with Godric Gryffindor’s swors because it was a horcrux; a very loyal Dumbledore’s Army member, and the leader of it during Harry's absense in Deathly Hallows ; husband of Hannah Abott; Herbology teacher at Hogwarts

Lovegood, Luna – a very strange, eccentric dreamy Ravenclaw girl 1 year below Harry; her mother died when she was 9; a very loyal Dumbledore’s Army member; wife of Newt Scamander’s grandson

Lovegood, Xenophillius – Luna’s dad who makes The Quibbler

Lupin, Remus – a werewolf; 1 of the 4 Marauders who created the Marauders Map; taught Defense Against the Dark Arts in Harry’s 3rd year; Order of the Phoenix member; otherwise known as Moony; husband of Nymphadora Tonks and father of Teddy Lupin; killed during the Battle of Hogwarts

Malfoy, Draco – a Slytherin boy in Harry’s year who was supposedly a Death Eater; Harry's foremost rival ever since his arrival at Hogwarts; owner of the Elder Wand for a brief time after disarming Dumbledore; son of Lucius and Narcissa

Malfoy, Lucius – a Death Eater; the master of Dobby the house-elve until Harry freed him at the end of his second year; a prefect during his time at Hogwarts; father of Draco and husband of Narcissa

Malfoy, Narcissa – wife of Lucius; mother of Draco

Malkin, Madam – the owner of a shop which sells robes for all occasions in Diagon Alley

Maxime, Olympe – Headmistress of Beauxbatons; half- giant

Mcgonnagal, Minerva – Transfiguration teacher at Hogwarts; animagus in the form of a cat; Head of Gryffindor House; Deputy Headmistress of Hogwarts; member of Order of the Phoenix

Mclaggen, Cormac – a very bossy boy who wanted to be on the Gryffindor Quidditch team but was Confundused by Hermione

Macmillan, Ernie – a Hufflepuff boy in Harry’s year who is a member of Dumbledore’s Army; a prefect

Moody, Alastor – an auror who was killed trying to protect Harry; otherwise known as Mad- Eye Moody

Nott – a Death Eater

Olivander, Mr. – an elderly wand maker who owns Olivanders Wands – a shop in Diagon Alley

Parkinson, Pansy – a Slytherin girl in Harry’s year

Patil, Padma – a Ravenclaw girl in Harry’s year who is a Dumbledore’s Army member; twin to Parvati

Patil, Parvati – a Gryffindor girl in Harry’s year who is a Dumbledore’s Army member; twin to Padma

Petigrew, Peter – 1 of the 4 Marauders who created the Marauders Map; animagus in the form of a rat; otherwise known as Wormtail; thought to be Ron’s rat Scabbers; betrayed Lily and James Potter; a Death Eater; a reformed Death Eater; committed suicide when Harry was 17when he was about to kill Harry, but Harry reminded him he saved his life

Peverells – 3 brothers who supposedly met Death and got 3 extremely magical items(see the Deathly Hallows in the items section); Tale of the Three Brothers was written after them

Pince, Madam – the librarian at Hogwarts

Pomfrey, Madam – the nurse at Hogwarts

Potter, Albus Severus – Harry’s youngest son; has green eyes like Harry and most likely black hair also

Potter, Harry – the Boy who Lived; defeater of Voldemort; Triwizard Champion from Hogwarts; in Gryffindor; Quidditch Seeker on the Gryffindor Quidditch team since his 1st year until his 6th year; Quidditch captain in his 6th year; a parslemouth; patronus in the shape of a stag; husband of Ginny and father of Lily, James, and Albus Severus; an auror

Potter, James – 1 of the 4 Marauders who created the Marauders Map; animagus in the form of a stag; killed by Voldemort in attempt to protect Harry; otherwise known as Prongs; husband of Lily and father of Harry; member of Order of the Phoenix

Potter, James Sirius – Harry’s oldest son who is in Gryffindor; he is a lot like Fred and George Weasley and Ron

Potter, Lily – Harry’s mom who was killed by Voldemort in attempt to protect Harry; patronus is in the shape of a doe; member of Order of the Phoenix

Potter, Lily Luna – Harry’s daughter who has red hair

Prang, Ernie – the driver of the Knight Bus

Quirrel, Professor – the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor in Harry’s 1st year; possessed by Voldemort and was eventually killed by Harry touching him
 
Ravenclaw, Helena - the daughter of Rowena Ravenclaw who was murdered by the Bloody Baron; also, the ghost of Ravenclaw House otherwise known as The Grey Lady

Scamander, Newt – the author of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Scrimgeour, Rufus – briefly the Minister of Magic for about 1 year after Fudge got fired; killed by Voldemort in attempt to take over the Ministry of Magic

Schacklebolt, Kingsley – a worker at the Ministry of Magic; Order of the Phoenix Member; auror

Shunpike, Stan – the conductor of the Knight Bus who was supposedly imperiused and made into a Death Eater; fate unknown

Skeeter, Rita – a writer for the Daily Prophet who likes to twist stories a lot; wrote The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore ; animagus form is a beetle

Slughorn, Professor –the Potions teacher at Hogwarts during Harry’s 6th year and the year after that; briefly head of Slytherin house; supplied Tom Riddle with information on horcruxes; loves crystallized pineapples; has a walrus mustache

Slytherin, Salazar – 1 of the 4 founders of Hogwarts

Smith, Zacharias – a Hufflepuff boy who is on the Hufflepuff Qiudditch team and is a member of Dumbledore’s Army

Snape, Severus – previous Potions professor of Hogwarts and Defense Against the Dark Arts professor for 1 year; briefly headmaster of Hogwarts for less than 1 year; otherwise known as the Half- Blood Prince; reformed Death Eater; member of Order of the Phoenix; Head of Slytherin House; patronus is a doe; was in love with Lily Evans, and even after she died he fought to protect Harry; disliked by the 4 Marauders; always trusted by Albus Dumbledore; killed by Voldemort’s snake Nagini

Spinnet, Alicia – a Gryffindor girl who is 2 years above Harry and played as a Chaser on the Gryffindor Quidditch team; a Dumbledore’s Army member

Sprout, Professor – the Herbology teacher at Hogwarts

Thomas, Dean – a Gryffindor boy in Harry’s year who is muggle- born; Dumbledore’s Army member

Tonks, Nymphadora – an auror; a metamorphmagus; wife of Remus Lupin and mother of Teddy; killed during the Battle of Hogwarts

Tonks, Ted – Nymphadora’s father and Andromeda’s husband; killed by Death Eaters

Trelawney, Professor – the Divination professor at Hogwarts who also made the prophecy of Harry and Voldemort

Twycross, Wilkies – the apparition instructor for 6th years

Umbridge, Professor – the Defense Against the Dark Arts Teacher during Harry’s 5th year (as Hogwarts High Inquisitor); got carried off by centaurs but returned to later work at the Ministry of Magic

Vane, Romilda – a girl who tried to get Harry to go out with her by giving him cauldron cakes filled with love potion, but Ron ate one and fell in love with her momentarily

Voldemort – the greatest wizard alive who killed countless people until Harry potter killed him when he was 17

Warbeck, Celestina – a singer Mrs. Weasley admires

Weasley, Arthur – worker at the Ministry of Magic who is fascinated by muggles; father of Charlie, Bill, Percy, Fred, George, Ron, and Ginny, and husband of Molly; Order of the Phoenix member

Weasley, Bill – works at Gringotts;(to his mother's great anger) dyed his hair black and has peircings; Order of the Phoenix member; husband of Fleur Delacour and father of Victorie, Dominique, and Louis

Weasley, Charlie – works in Romania with dragons; the eldest of the Weasley children; Order of the Phoenix member

Weasley, Dominique – daughter of Bill and Fleur Weasley

Weasley, Fred – a twin of George who co- owned Weasley’s Wizarding Wheezes; a Gryffindor boy 2 years above Harry; played as a Beater on the Gryffindor Quidditch team; quit school a little early in his 7th year; member of Dumbledore’s Army; killed in the Battle of Hogwarts;

Weasley, Fred II – the son of George and Angelina Johnson

Weasley, George – a twin of Fred who currently owns Weasley’s Wizarding Wheezes; a Gryffindor boy 2 year above Harry; played as a Beater on the Gryffindor Quidditch team; quit school a little early in his 7th year; member of Dumbledore’s Army; husband of Angelina Johnson and father of Fred II and Roxanne

Weasley, Ginny – the youngest of the Weasley children and the only girl; a Gryffindor girl 1 year under Harry; nearly killed by the memory of Tom Riddle in her 1st year; player on the Gryffindor Quidditch team briefly as a Seeker then as a Chaser; member of Dumbledore’s Army; wife of Harry Potter and mother of James, Lily, and Albus Severus

Weasley, Hugo – son of Ron and Hermione

Weasley, Louis – son of Bill and Fleur

Weasley, Lucy – daughter of Percy and Audry

Weasley, Molly – stay at home mom; member of Order of the Phoenix; wife of Arthur and mother of Charlie, Bill, Percy, Fred, George, Ron, and Ginny

Weasley, Molly II – daughter of Percy and Audry

Weasley, Percy – worker at the Ministry of Magic; Gryffindor prefect; husband of Audry and father of Molly II and Lucy

Weasley, Ron – Herry Potter’s best friend who is in Gryffindor; "best played game of wizards chess" in year 1; Quidditch keeper in year 5 and 6; Gryffindor prefect; member of Dumbledore’s Army; destroyed the horcrux "Slytherin's locket"; an auror; husband of Hermione Granger and father of Hugo and Rose
