Prisoner of Azkaban
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is the third book in the series and Harry’s third year at Hogwarts. While at the Dursley’s for summer vacation, Harry accidentally inflates his Aunt Marge, and afterwards runs away. But the Knight Bus (emergency transport for the stranded witch or wizard) comes to rescue him. It is here that he finds out that there is a mass murderer on the loose- Sirius Black. When he arrives at the leaky cauldron, he is dropped of charges due to accidental underage magic by Cornelius Fudge (the minister of magic). On the Hogwarts Express, he is attacked by a mysterious creature called a dementor, which causes him to pass out. Hagrid becomes Care of Magical Creatures professor, to Harry’s delight, and to Malfoy’s aggravation. Fred and George give Harry a Marauders Map of Hogwarts castle-which shows where everyone inside the castle boundaries is. Harry has a Quidditch match where dementors attack him, therefore resulting in the first loss for Gryffindor since Harry’s joining the team, and a broken Nimbus -Two Thousand. Harry learns how to conjure a Patronus charm to repel dementors, thanks to Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher Remus Lupin. They find in the end that Remus Lupin is a werewolf, and Sirius Black is not a murderer or betrayer, but an innocent man- and Harry’s godfather. But instead the betrayer of Lily and James Potter was Peter Petigrew - an animagus who was thought to be Ron’s rat Scabbers and has been in their family for 12 years. The brilliant work of Hermione’s time turner allowed them to go back in time, which resulted in them saving Buckbeak the Hippogriff from death, but more importantly, Harry proves heroic yet again by saving himself and Sirius from the dementors.
